A former Lupe Tortilla employee has been sentenced to one year in state jail after pleading guilty to placing a hidden camera inside a restroom at the restaurant’s Katy Freeway location, according to Harris County court records.
Bayron Elias Pu, 31, pleaded guilty Friday to invasive visual recording in a bathroom or dressing room. Pu had worked at the Lupe Tortilla restaurant at 9313 Katy Freeway in Hedwig Village.
The case began after authorities said another restaurant employee found a hidden camera inside a family restroom on New Year’s Eve. Employees reported the camera to management, who then contacted the Hedwig Village Police Department.
According to court records, the camera produced six video clips. One recording showed a child and her mother inside the restroom, a court order states.
Investigators said the device also recorded footage that helped identify Pu as the person who installed the camera.
Pu was arrested following the investigation. Court records also show the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service placed a hold on Pu for an immigration violation. Records identify him as a Guatemalan national.
Pu was sentenced to one year in state jail after entering the guilty plea.
